Fourth/Fifth Grade Title 1 Homework |
Student PlannersWilson School fourth and fifth grade students receive a student planner. Students write their daily homework in their planners. Teachers will initial the planners when homework is correctly written down. The planner will be used daily for assignments and communication purposes. The planners are not only a guide to help students with their organization, but they also are a way to communicate assigned homework with parents. If you need to write a note to the teachers, the planner is a good place to put it. Parents need to initial the planners on a daily basis.
Reading HomeworkStudents enrolled in either the fourth or fifth grade title 1 class are assigned 45 minutes of daily reading homework. They are required to read their AR book. Students should chunk this reading time, either in 15 or 20 minute periods. The more a student practices reading, the more fluent reader that student becomes. We do assign less spelling and no language homework because of the increased reading homework.
Weekly Reading GradeOnce a student finishes an AR book, they may take a quiz on that book. Students earn points according to the percentage they get on the quiz. Title 1 fourth and fifth graders are expected to earn at least 2 points a week.
Weekly Reading Grading Scale
A+ > 3 points A 3.o points B 2.5-2.9 points C 2.0-2.4 points D 1.5-1.9 points F < 1.5 points **** If a student chooses to read a book worth 4 points or more, they will most likely take more than a week to read the book. In that case, they will not earn any points that week. In this situation, students must turn in a completed reading log on Friday.
| Spelling HomeworkStudents are given a weekly spelling list of ten words. We assign fewer spelling words so that students can spend more time reading their AR book. Click here for the weekly spelling list.
